About Aspiring Law

Aspiring Law is founded on the belief that law can serve a broader purpose — supporting our communities, our people and the environment. That belief is at the heart of our work as a British Columbia benefit company, where measurable social and environmental commitments stand alongside clear, client-focused legal services.

Laura Cochrane, Founder & Lawyer

My name is Laura Cochrane, and I am the founder and lawyer behind Aspiring Law. My hope is to build a law practice grounded in empathy, clarity and impact — so clients feel supported, informed and confident at every step.

For the past seven years, I have had the privilege of serving northwestern British Columbia as a lawyer with Warner Bandstra Brown, helping families navigate estates, property and planning with care. Now, I’m embarking on a new chapter, but with the same commitment to you, and to practicing law with purpose.

I grew up and studied in Aotearoa New Zealand, lived in Sweden and interned with the European Commission in Ireland. I’m grateful to now call Terrace home — a place defined by mountains, rivers, lakes and trails, and by a community that reminds me daily why purpose matters.

Surrounded by the outdoors and pursuits that I love — backcountry skiing, hiking, biking and paddling — I’ve developed a practice that aspires to make legal services as effortless and empowering as the landscapes that inspire me.

Our Name

Sheep grazing at the foot of Mount Aspiring

Our name, Aspiring Law, carries a double meaning. It honours Mount Aspiring | Tititea  (3,033m) the glistening peak, in Aotearoa New Zealand, where I grew up and studied law.

The mountain symbolizes my personal connection to the landscapes and values that shaped me: respect, perseverance and integrity.

It also embodies our commitment to making legal services more accessible, effortless and empowering — helping clients move forward with clarity and confidence.

We use the name with deep respect for its cultural and spiritual significance to Ngāi Tahu, the people of Tahu, honouring the Māori iwi tribe of Aotearoa’s South Island.

Our impact framework
